Manuscript Consultations

Manuscript Consultation

My aim, in the manuscript consultation process, is to listen to the work, to hear the heart beat of the story, and to launch the author into a playful process of experimentation as he or she shapes and fine-tunes their work.

What authors can expect from their consultation:

A detailed editorial letter
Providing a bird’s eye, big picture view of the work as a whole, including strengths, overall structural and character questions, and an analysis of the plot and sub-plot arcs, as well as theme notes. This editorial letter will also include suggestions for ways to play with the story in order to find new insight.

Line notes
Providing a detailed log of the reader’s experience. What might a reader feel, wonder, hope, experience, while reading through the book?

A one-hour meeting via Skype
Providing discussion about the editorial letter, line notes, guidance, and an opportunity for brainstorming and questions.

If you’re ready to start a manuscript consultation, please copy and paste five pages of your manuscript, double spaced, into the body of an email. Please also include your goals for this work, and for yourself as a writer.

If you’d like more information or have questions about consultations, please email Naomi.
