About Naomi Kinsman
Author of the From Sadie’s Sketchbook Series, Naomi also created the award-winning Spilled Ink, A Writer’s Notebook. As Founder & Executive Director for Society of Young Inklings, Naomi developed Writerly Play, a game-based toolkit to inspire and teach young writers. For the past 20 years, Naomi has facilitated Creative Lift workshops for thousands of young people and adults across the country. She’s the host of the Creative Lift podcast, a Skillshare instructor, and has served as a creative strategist for a number of nonprofit organizations.
I can’t stop talking about the sessions Naomi Kinsman did for our region. I had heard such wonderful things about her in-person workshops. What I wasn’t prepared for was how impactful her virtual sessions would be. Being able to go through her methods distraction-free in my own workspace was incredibly powerful and has made it even easier to re-visit her techniques now when I step into my space to explore my characters and their environments. Her methods have given me a direct route to creating more freely, joyfully, and effectively. Feedback from attendees has also been fantastic.
Naomi has developed a totally original approach to teaching that is amusing for all involved, and also, at its core, highly effective. Kids learn through her process that there are multiple ways of approaching writing. I have yet to see a student hesitate to apply the learning from games into their writing; it’s as if the student sees the pen hitting the paper as a continuation of the games Naomi sets up
